Making things (from other things) is such an important piece of who you are in the world!

Brilliant ideas here -- connecting your making to your writing. Using Substack to talk about the writing process. I look forward to following the process.

I suck at making things. I have a lot of respect and admiration for people who do.

I feel like writing is just another form of making! Making things is such a simple pleasure.

This sounds really great, Shifra. I love the idea of combining your two ways of making things. I say this as someone who makes nothing, and admires your ability to do it in more than one domain.

I love repurposing. I make aprons out of old tablecloths. After my mother died, I took one of her old checkered tablecloths and made 2 aprons out of it -- one for my sister and one for me. They hold such memories. If there is enough material left over I'll stitch up a couple of napkins to go with the tablecloth. I also take men's old and discarded neck ties and make headbands for myself. I have also made woolen mittens from old sweaters and sweat shirts. I try not to throw anything away. I'll try to find another purpose for the item.

I love the idea of this writing project. Looking forward to seeing how it unfolds, as one maker to another!

I'm always inspired by all the amazing things you make! I remember watching you embellish cloth with beads and I still aspire to do that!
