On Laziness
Francoise Sagan
Mason Currey included this quotation from Francoise Sagan in a wonderful newsletter a while back (I recommend both his newsletter and his “worm zoom,” a daily morning zoom where you can write in company with others.) Sagan was asked by an interviewer, “Are you as lazy as people say you are?” I stitched her answer on an old dish towel using sashiko thread as a 70th birthday gift for a very, very dear friend
.

As the lucky recipient of this art work, I need to tell you it's much much better in person. The thread colors and the stripes of the fabric (likely an old dish towel) are in perfect harmony, and the 3D aspect of the stitching is lost in 2D. It seems I had liked this quote when S first sent it to me, but I'd forgotten. Imagine my surprise to open the package and find it expressed in handwrought textile, among the things in this world I value most, along with our friendship. Laziness is undervalued in our culture.
Love this!!
